I too shall miss J. Gordon Holt, but I would like to have known more about him, his social and political opinions, and perhaps more of his interests. Whether they were different than mine or not would be irrelevant. The more complete understanding of such a great man would only have added to the appreciation of his genius. He would certainly have had very good reasons for all he believed in, reasons I would like to have had the opportunity to hear just a little more about. His insight and wisdom I marveled at.
Thus, I find no offense when a comment by a reviewer reveals their social or political standings. If they present a point I find interesting, I can investigate the issue more and determine the validity of such an opinion. I have many friends of both sides and between the current political landscape and find learning more of both sides is similar to learning more of tubes and SS. There are merits to all sides in a debate whether it be political or audio.
Thus, with regard to a reviewer (JA) who makes their political opinions known merely gives me a more complete picture of who they are and I find this interesting. Just the way I like hearing how Sam is slowly learning a little Russian, a wife named Marina, his travels to the Russian record stores, avoiding the KGB, and returns to write about it....Gotta love it. I feel like I know him, and Marina. Reading about him for many many years and the other reviewers has been rewarding.
This is a hobby meant for us to know more about music, reproduction, and maybe a little about ourselves. Jallen
