You know, if we accept that Valin thinks the pre/power sound arid...

...then he is comparing software and the reel to reel vs. CD hardware. So the only way you could make a better comparison would to have the same music for both. I doubt that happened. And even then, you are comparing software formats and the difference in the players.

I am not sure you can conclude much but that he had already decided that Ayre gear is arid, and that reel to reel sounds better than CD. I personally don't care about the first conclusion (I would have to hear the exact Ayre gear he refers to in my system), and I already know that reel to reel sounds good.

Some of the other comments in this thread are wacky. One could conclude that certain reviewers think speakers should sound good regardless of what is in front of them in the chain. Does anyone here really believe that?
