The swipe at TAS...

So did I - for over 15 years. Your short tenure overlapped with mine.

I suspect there was some of this going on, but I personally never saw any of it. Perhaps being on the West Coast, I was not in the center of the activity and never aspired to be.

Historically from your posts, it appears you have some residual animosity toward HP. I was told you left because you didn't really "fit in"; something about your attitude, but not your maturity or sanity.

Perhaps you aspired to a "fair-haired boy" yourself and were rebuffed. There has always been a lot of jockeying to curry HP's favor among the writers. I stayed out of it and just did my job.

Valin, on the other hand, wanted to *BE* HP. Under Martin's leadership, he has gotten away with very unethical behavior, IMO, and has brought into question the credibility of the magazine.
