The boat...

I believe that after a certain point, say 100 bucks per meter, the differences between to competently made cable are miniscule.

One may have a slightly tilted up sound on the highs which might make one audiophile approved disc sound perffect on cymbals. Yet on the other hand it may make other recordings, say most rock and roll, sound shrill. On the other hand, one that makes shrill discs sound OK, might make audio approved discs sound flat and lifeless.

Another cable may make bass sound perfect on one disc, while making another sound boomy.

I am the believer that there is no one particular cable that can sound right on all recordings. The frequency response differences between recordings far exceeds the frequency response differences between cables. So pick a good, reasonably priced one and live with it. Two weekends ago I witnessed a 1300 dollar silver cable teminated with with the latest WBT connectors. The cable connectors were left unterminated because the user did not torque down the WBTs. This left the ground unterminated on both channels. A severe channel balance was the result as well as a volume control which essentially was being bypassed. A 100 dollar per meter cable would have sufficed this guy just fine.

As far as the grain that many of us here hear... you are kmost probably pushing the ability of your preamp to drive the capacitance of the cable. This occurs often with tube type pre amps. Flame on!
