Re: Need to work on the speed reading skills

Did I step on your little Id?

"Earlier, you observed that there was no need to use low DC speaker cables with preamps. No debate there. Now you've answered a question, but not the one I asked. Let's try again.
Have you READ much written by Nelson Pass on that topic? (desirability of simple circuits) I wondered if you knew his reasoning on the design behind your Aleph amps."

As a metter of fact I have read some of his writtings. For what it is worth, did I fail to mention that I am an engineer myself? As if technology in and of itself is a guarantee to good sound. Hard work, math, good quality compoments, stars aligning... and dumb luck all contribute to good sound. I am a believer that regardless of went in to the design, it is what comes out of it that matters.

"So do the cables in the garage system tame the brightness of the floor?

Why would anyone use cables as tone controls?"

Why would anyone waste that much money on high $$$ cables for a garage system? Using cables as a tone control for the glare off the floor would be the only explanation.

"Those are some nice sounding headphones to go along with those huge, highly reliable 400 watt tube amps.

T"hanks. Headphones? Ok. I've never associated seven foot tall two hundred pound speakers as "headphones", but be my guest. Indeed VTL shares a common lineage with Manley Labs for developing products originally intended for use by the pro market. The amps have been utterly reliable in the five years I've had them."

I've heard the A1s many times. The old head stuck in a vise for any semblence of imaging, to me, is a headphone. Do check out the Stax Lambda Pros. They sound better and provide the deep bass we'll touch on below. Way better WAF.

"I trust you do have a sub to help them from 40 Hz down.

Why would I do that?"

From 40 Hz on down any planer's response drops like a rock. Yes, my choice of loudspeakers included. Unless you have defeated the laws of the physics of sound, you are missing the bottom octave. Not sure if Nelson Pass has touched on that subject.
