Why hasn't anyone DONE something about it?Should be very easy to build a little (battery powered) box that generates an asymmetrical waveshape (standardize on 1 Khz?/waveshape?). Waveshape output via built-in speaker and RCA/XLR. Input via built-in microphone and RCA/XLR. LED's on front panel to indicate absolute or inverted phase. Cost - $50 in quantity.
Could use this to set up microphones. Could also record 10 second "absoute polarity" tone at the beginning of EVERY CD/LP/Whatever. Now you can check your system by holding "box" up to the speaker and seeing which LED comes on.
Since no one did something like this a LONG time ago must mean that NOBODY cares! Think I remember seeing a construction article in AUDIO magazine in the '70's
