RE: Must be a Scottish thing

I had no trouble understanding every word he says - although yes there is some accent Frew instead of Through.

Though my mom is Welsh and I lived in Wales and Australia as a kid so perhaps I am used to their idiosyncratic speech patterns. I am surprised you would have that much trouble with him though. However, I remember watching the movie Trainspotting and my mom and I had to put on the subtitles for the first 15 minutes to understand what the hell they were saying - though we got used to their speech patterns and accents and it was fine after that. Plus I've been in Asia for much of 14 years so I can fill in the gaps.

The Capaldi video actually began as a video to promote heart transplants and starred Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who fame) and I was personally taken with that. The song ended up number 1 in the UK for a few months and is still top 20 after 34 weeks.

It somewhat interests me why some things do so well in some countries and largely fail in others. Blue Rodeo and The Tragically Hip are huge in Canada and largely did nothing in the USA.

The Outfield one of my favorite bands in the 1980s are a British Trio and they found quite a lot of success in the United States and the Philippines and did absolutely nothing in Britain.

Amanda Marshall had something like 7 top 10 charters off of her debut album in Canada and had one song hit 43 in the US.

Meanwhile Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Diana Krall, Alanis Morrisette (who doesn't know the meaning of ironic) all became pretty big to utterly massive stars.

Avril Lavigne is quite popular to use from an English teaching perspective because she keeps her clothes on, she enunciates every word, and she usually keeps the lyrics clean.

Not that you really want to listen to a song you don't care for three times but this is the official heart transplant music video - perhaps because I have listened to it a fair bit I got used to his pronunciation. The Sean Connery rasp or something
