RE: I replaced the woofer surrounds a few years ago. (nt)

I think it depends on the quality of the woofer rebuild kit and the skill of the person installing.

That doesn't mean that caps in the crossover network can't go bad, and so on, but a woofer re-do if done correctly shouldn't compromise the performance.

I base that claim on rebuilding a bunch of backline and sound reinforcement cabinets, though. Wrinkled woofers aren't a new deal, and as long as the voice coils aren't cooked or rubbing, a surround job isn't a big deal. If you remove the old surround and get scrapey noises when you move the cone in and out, yeah, there's more wrong than just the woofer suspensions that are ripped or wrinkled.
