RE: Nothing dogmatic, I actually listen to music!

Ok, I fully agree that downsampling a 96kHz recording to 48kHz can result in a decrease in sound quality.

The issue I have is when the conclusion is made that the decrease in sound quality is a consequence of the truncation of the high (ultrasonic) frequencies.

If you wish to suggest that the ultrasonic frequency extension of high resolution recordings are important to overall sonic quality, the experiment to support that conclusion is to take the 96kHz recording, and start to roll-off the high frequencies. For instance, is there any difference between 40 kHz roll-off and 30 kHz, or 30 and 25 kHz... in those experiments, I have heard very little, if any, difference with speakers or headphones.
