RE: " I stop reading the review if they use CDs instead as it is a waste of time."

Obviously, if one is evaluating a CD player one will have to play CDs. :-) However, if one is evaluating a DAC, preamp, amplifier or speakers it is better to use higher resolution source material. The subtractive and additive distortions inherent in the limited resolution 44/16 format will mask limitations of the equipment being evaluated.

Like Teresa I am suspicious of reviewers who lack the ability and/or experience to hear differences between low and high resolution digital formats. My disagreement with Teresa concerns the adjectives she uses. I have many CDs that I consider to have "good" sound and a few that have "very good" sound, but none with "excellent" sound. I have a few dozen digital recordings that I consider to have "excellent" sound, but these are all high resolution, mostly 176/24, 192/24 or DSD. I still buy 44/16 digital recordings, but only when they are on sale at a low price. As a music lover, I will chose a good recording of an excellent performance over an excellent recording of a good performance.
