RE: Teresa Goodwin and Positive Feedback

When I have made DSD recordings from an analogue signal of an SACD it certainly sounds wonderful. 24/96 PCM sounds different and if I drop it to 16/44 it does lose a lot.

However much of what I listen to is in 16/44, on CD. Rather than wring my hands and rant and rave about it, one tries to have it reproduced the best one can.

As you said, on a good system, a well recorded CD is musical enough, sucks me into the music and in the end gives me satisfaction. Excessive compression is more to blame for a fatiguing cd than a well mastered one.

A good musical playback system doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. If the desire is to get the best within a budget, there are always ways of making that happen.

OTOH, while I try to make sure my music listening isn't from mp3, I have no reason to make fun of those that do get enjoyment from mp3's on portable machines.

Being a snob about ones tastes or opinions detracts from the hobby rather than pull people in.

Right now, in any of my systems, whatever I throw at it, seems to play back nicely, Vinyl, DSD, PCM, the vilified CD or AIFF ....... are there differences? Sure are.
