as well as others from the 50s, they are comparatively noisy, thin and do not have the overall resolution of the best recordings I have. Perhaps your collection is different.
As Al Sekela has pointed out, the world of the 50s was not constantly bathed in a range of EMI sources as it is today. What I find to be the benefit of using aftermarket cabling is a quieter, lower noise background where more detail is rendered more clearly.
