I get the impression that Salvatore ceases on anything to blast Stereophile, and ignores common sense to do so. First, I suspect Fremer is joking when he writes that lovers of singled ended drivers and SET amps are a lost cause. Remember that his compatriot at the magazine is Art Dudley, who would be one of those lost causes. I very much doubt Fremer considers Dudley a lost cause. I suspect it was a joke, with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Just like when Dudley will, undoubtedly in the next issue, claim that big solid state wattage amounts amounts to nothing more than audio bulls in the china shop. Salvatore needs to grow a sense of humor.
But, of course, he has heard the Wilsons, but conveniently fails to state where he heard them, for how long, and under what conditions.
And then Salvatore becomes something of a comedian. He chastises Tellig for writing that Tellig PREFERS CD to SACD, and from that, launches into a diatribe why CD redbook cannot be better than SACD. Tellig never wrote that CD is superior to SACD, only that he prefers CD to SACD. However, the fact that Salvatore has never done a side by side comparison does not deter him from decreeing that SACD sounds better than CD. I used to think subjectivity was in the ears of the beholder. Apparently, it is, when Salvatore agrees. And don't we all have 'rudimentary' knowledge?
The real funny part is that he decrees that the Esoteric combo is the best sounding and best made combo under $20,000.00. What are the odds that Salvatore has heard and handled every player under $20k? He makes a lot of sense?
