Re: How about some DBTs?

"Apparently there have been some DBTs done and they have not been, shall we say, very positive. And apparently Sony felt that for demonstration purposes, they had to tweak the SACD recording by adding a little reverb to make it sound different from the CD version. This was reported in Audio magazine a few years ago. My sources tell me the article is: Edward J. Foster, "Evolutionary or Super Audio Revolutionary? Audio, Nov 1999, page 40-47. I should try to get a copy."

I have read that to some, the early SACD players had slightly compromised redbook sections in order to better higlight the differences between formats. I am not one to go back and forth with songs and formats since I am mainly a music listener. But I can attest to the quality of the early Sony redbook digital sections after the analog sections have been modified. While not being the be all end all in resolution, it now does quite nice. My downstream components do a pretty good job of offsetting the difference between my current front end and the so called absolute sound front end.
