Yes, now that E-stat has stated more clearly what happened, it turns out that he did not compare the sound from the mic feed and the recorder's output, whereas Stan Ricker did.

--- The only means for this comparison to be valid would be for the live mic feed to go through all of the same electronics and loudspeakers - digital recorder / playback.

His live vs. recorded listening (separated by a few minutes) involves too many variables to be able to make even a tentative judgment as to whether the Soundstream recorder is audibly transparent or not.

--- Ditto here. What EStat heard live would have to have been heard through the same electronis as well, thus taking the electronics and loudspeakers out of the equation to make it a valid comparison. I trust this is the config that EStat is refering to. If not, he'd be comparing an everything in the chain, not the recording / playback medium versus live.
