However, not every Passive Radiator design is a Plain Vanilla Closed Box.

Dick Shahinian, bless his heart, invented the 1/4 Wave Transmission Line that terminated in a weighted Passive Radiator.

That said, IIRC his patent was for the shape of the Obelisk. OK, let me check that.

Yup. It's a Design patent. He claims that the design is "Ornamental," which is a bit misleading. Perhaps he did not go for a Utility patent on his woofer loading because he did not want to publicize it. Or, somebody could have (IMHO wrongly) advised him that it was not patentable because it was a combination of well-known pre-existing elements. That would have been Amateur Hour Lawyering.
