Discuss a review. Provide constructive feedback. Talk to the industry.

Because it doesnt help the "buisness model"

This is an excellent post and something I have email a few editors about over the past year. IMHO the simple fact of the matter is that reviews of vintage equipent will not be seen because they do not stimulate sales by manufactueres, distributors, retailers or concomiantly magazine cirulation rates. Its that simple. This does not mean that all vintage stuff is great, but certain gear can and should be used today-often at fraction of the cost of some modern gear.

This lack of respect for past gear also, IMHO underscores how far the print mags have lost thier way. Once they were a cherished monthly present from the mailman which linked and communicated ideas about a hobby celebrating sound, design and related matters ideas to a far flung group. Now they seem to be little more than hype and gaining mass appeal. Example, remember when TAS used to publish the blue plate special article as a means for younger and presumably poorer readers to experience great sound? Where is that GSi modded dyna 70 now? Rember when a modded HK citation 2 would appear on a real reccomended components list? Well where are they now. Lost on a free trip to a sunny country with the best food on earth and some of the nicest people anywhere and coincidently a review of sonus faber, opera and other designs (which for the record i think make great gear)

Point is, vintage components do not help the industry's bottom line. But id put up a properly restored fisher 400c series or power and supply cap upgraded maratnzz 7 tube pre amp against most anything out there. So how bout it editiors? why not run some vintage components reviews with combinded use in modern systems. I do and its musical as all get out.

In fact, in may be more fun to start a vintage newletter- not for profit of course-- maybe even some of the star writers and editors in this AA group would want to contribute. Here's a list both tube and SS to start

Meitner pre and power amps
Spica speakers
fisher pre amps and amps
dyna (modded preferred) and eico gear
tannoy coaxials,
counterpoint hybrid
certain nad gear from the past
radiocraftsmen tube amps
heck even some low cost knight and lafayette stuff is musical
Early cj pv pre amps

Contact me and maybe we can start one.

On a more postive note, steve marsh in 5 moons just did a vintage tannoy article and vacuum tube valley does examine some great tube stuff
