The file name includes "1956"

My guess is that the painter could have been using a magazine advertisement or photo as his model for the equipment. Many graphic professionals obsessively clip out and file images for reference or creative inspiration. So, it could have been an older photo or ad.

Yes, I have always realized that they were spinning 78s--that's why the host is standing by the TT: 3-minute playing time.

I think it's a wonderful little moment, frozen in amber. I love the fact that the women are dolled up, but of course this could be just the nightcap, and they were out dining and dancing before, or they could be headed out later.

The apartment or home is quite a gas--daring pink walls, and built-in hi-fi, or semi-built in. I can't decide whether the mono speaker is under the TT, hence the open cabinet door, or in the wall behind the host's head.

If I ever get some money to spend on silly things, I will try to get a hi-res scan of this and have it ink-jet-printed onto acoustical cloth to wrap on a diffusion panel.
