I agree about it attempting to undermine some of the industry's most deeply held beliefs. In fact, I'd argue that perhaps the most important of those beliefs is that one must suspend disbelief when evaluating products that appear fraudulent or bogus, or that the theory says should make little or no difference. AFAIK, the person you're talking about is not a tweak vendor, but is a vendor who professes to believe in the idea that "everything makes a difference", which goes hand in hand with the dogma of suspension of disbelief. That's the sacred cow that's still quite alive and well at Stereophile and other high-end audio mags, despite your efforts, which I do appreciate.
So what's next on the agenda? "LP demagnetizers for chumps?" An article like that would cause a bit of a problem with the recommended components list, wouldn't it? So despite your efforts with the "Chips for Chumps" article, nothing really changed at Stereophile at all. One could say that it was a brief respite from what is mostly a bunch of nonsense that continues unabated.
