Re: I'm shocked!!

No, no, no, the only time I replace anything is when it breaks down and I don't feel like repairing it. Still using the HK citation 11 and three BSR 10 band equalizers in my main system and yes it still takes me 2 years to adjust one when I have to replace something or when I moved to my new house. I wonder if adjusting a 30 band equalizer would take me the rest of my life. I tried using a calibrated microphone and a spectrum analyzer but the sound was all wrong, far far to bright. (I understand someone, maybe BBC has a "modified" FR curve they consider ideal...flies in the face of theory.) I had to finally give up and just do a lot of listening. It's the only way that works for me. One advantage though, at last weekend's show in Piscataway, I felt I'd be able to identify each peculiar major FR error and how I'd fix them (some alas were beyond redemption.) Most common error...lack of mid and upper bass/lower midrange. I was surprised nobody I saw brought their own recordings to hear. I brought a few I am familiar with. Poor Marian McPartland. If she sounded in real life like some of those sound systems portrayed her playing, you'd think she lost most of the use of her left arm to polio, the left hand notes were so weak.
