Allow me to add a point?

You can't reproduce what isn't there in the first place. Before reproduction comes recording and if I understood jj's comments correctly there's much that still needs to be done in that area. Therefore, if a playback system doesn't sound like live, it's maybe (partially) because the live event was not recorded correctly.

And even if live events were recorded correctly, there's still the acoustics of the listening room that is commingled with the ambient cues on the disc during playback.
