I pick "C"

You are working an assumption here that there are only two choices; lack of knowledge or marketing savvy. I pick "c", that audio reproduction is hard.

It would be reasonable to fit some people into your categories, but unreasonable to suggest everyone is on that bandwagon. Surely some engineer somewhere must "understand" the technology and would step forward to build the perfect speakers. There might even be the "rich and famous" draw for someone to come forward with such a system, could it be done.

In your first paragraph, you correctly state the "much is not known", but later chide a leader in the industry as "they don't understand where it is or how to get there", indicating the goal can be reached. I don't think so.

Also in your first paragraph, you note it "rare" that you have been fooled into mistaking live sound for reproduced. Please let me know what systems did this for you. I have never been fooled and would like that experience.
