"And you were the one defending subjective testing with no controls :-)"

HA-HA You jest!

After all, that would be such a silly thing to say in seriousness after having read ... "I'll say BS. Well actually I wouldn't quite go that far, I'd respect that many many folk think the thing sounds good".

As far as defending subjective tests I beleive I've indicated I appreciate a review that provide a description of the sound vs. the type that conclude "Yes, difference demonstrated" or "No, no difference demonstrated" ... boring!

Of course when a reviewer is good at describilng sound it can be a fun read even when the sound described does appeal particularily. For example take the review of Classe's Delta Electronics that appears in TAS (June/July 2005). I get the distinct inpression of stuff that would appeal to well to do types, those that like the delicate refined approach to sound, something that makes Les Quatre Seasons sound pleasant over morning tea on a bright sunny Saturday morning with the light flickering on the lake and all.

Maybe that a little extreme, yet one definitely does get the impression that to enjoy, on those rare occasions, something like Velvet Underground's "White Light White Heat", one would be well advised to actually get banged up on heroine to obscure that fact that the gear just wasn't made for such a thing.

Getting the picture?
