My experience to date ...

has lead me to the conclusion that there is no such thing, from a subjective POV, as a single 'tube sound'? Soundwise I certainly know what I have gravitated toward, namely an enhanced sence of 'liveness' or 'realism' that I've not often encountered with full SS designs. This is not the same as saying that such SS designs don't exist, actually I would say the GSP Jazz Club phono stage basically has 'it'. Anyway, regardless of how one implements it, this type of sound has nothing to do with warm romatic bloom (that would have to come from the recording), and certainly harshness ain't part of it either, that's for damn sure! That fact that I got there with a hybrid phono stage, pure tube pre, and all SS power could just be the luck of the draw, who knows?

Thus when I see, with regard to tune gear, sweeping generalizations, be it reference to romantic warm glow, harshness, or whatever, I'm inclined to attribute it to inexperience on behalf of the commenter. The same goes for sweeping generalization about SS gear for that matter.
