The qualifications in both of the major audio magazines are there because (1) they can't possibly review everything, and (2) not everything is available for them to review. It really isn't any more sinister than that. And as for your earlier comments about the brick and mortar dealer, I would have a very easy time selling audio equipment if all it took was someone to read a review and want a given component or whole system comprised of components taken from anyone's recommended components list. Actually, that would make this business easy and a whole bunch of us would be making money hand over fist.
But where I am at I have to do things the old-fashioned way. I have to do market analysis and find out where the right price points are. I have to look at the listening rooms people intend on using. Then I have to find out what the customer is wanting to achieve under their budget constraints. Then I have to give them some options to try in their homes. Then I get to test the system to make sure all is well, and make whatever tweaks or changes are necessary. Then I have to install it and get it set up for demo. Sometimes they stick and sometimes they don't.
So if people out there in AZ are just itching to buy whatever gets reviewed or makes it on some recommended components list, I guess I just got dealt some bad cards when it comes to demographics.
