Well John I agree but the magazines by a mile wouldn't make that job easier now would they?

We seem to agree on many levels but I hardly agree that exploiting the ignorance of "audiophiles" is preferable to making greater attempts at educating them. And this IMO is the road the magazines (not the individual reviewers) seem to have chosen with their decisions to publish recommended components lists (sure they sell more magazines) and their product of the year list, etc. All things that are benefits to the manufacturers playing ball with Stereophile, and thus to Stereophiles bottom line, but surely (and they can't be by the definition of the rules of the game) of no real benefit to the readers of the magazine regardless if these readers crave them like an alcoholic craves his next drink.
