Then was then, now is now

I agree, the first 10-15 years of HT were driven in part by having sound that was more visceral than your local theater.

But the local theater has caught up on sound. So HT is now driven by picture quality again. People are obsoleting projectors to get HD plasmas, and first-gen non-HD plasma early adopters are now getting bigger, HD plasmas, for less money.

It's all the "value proposition," or, "What's in it for me."

And high-end audio can't decide the plot of the story it wants to tell. Because "your grandfather cared about tubes" ain't cuttin' it.
