Lynn,You are minimizing the importance of component matching. Most people have their reference system. Some might have an extra amplifier but most do not have multiple sets of speakers, amps, preamps, cables, and source components.
The most impportant thing you said was:
"OK, let's say the item for review absolutely requires something a reviewer does not have, then either borrow it from someone, or defer the review to someone else."
I guess we do agree after all. :)
