What are the stakes btw, Wellfred?I mean, arguing for argument's sake is just like pissing on a hot stone. It all evaporates and comes to nothing but makes a whole lotta noise (and occasionally actual people get pissed on, too).
When folks argue in congress, it's for stakes - foreign politics, voting in personnel, going to war - whatever.
In India of the olden days, philosophical debates meant the loser became the disciple of the winner. Imagine a nuclear physicist arguing Quantum Physics and having to come work for the guy who won the debate.
I'd call that stakes that accomplish something (whether for the good or not is another matter). But it's not just to shoot the shit.
What's arguing here, about something I said, gonna accomplish? I won't change what I do nor how I do it, period. People may not agree with it but being self-employed, I've earned the right to do as I see fit.
So what's the purpose of this invition? What's the upside? What'll get accomplished - outside of a pissing contest of sorts where people argue until the cows come home, about something they have no personal experience with (by that I mean running a magazine, writing for one, publishing their own reviews?)
I can predict the downside - a waste of time and bandwidth -:)
As far as I'm concerned and 6moons, the piece I wrote isn't up for discussion. It's simply part of our three-part statement on Why/How We Review and For The Manufacturers.
It simply let's readers know where we're coming from so they know what to expect and if they disagree, they never have to come back and can write us off as whatever - quacks, amateurs, idiots, wankers and losers.
I mean, what we do ain't rocket science, heart surgery or adopting a homeless runaway adolescent. It's a hobby presumably about listening to music. Is it?
Sometimes it seems the hobby really is about arguing theory, ideals and opinions while spreading conjecture and rumors -:)
Or perhaps the stakes are that whoever wins the argument (in which I'm not particpating, btw) gets to write an opinion piece for Stereophile or HiFi+? You might want to ask JA or Roy Gregory whether they'd be interested in this type of material and approach to devote one or two pages of their publications to...
Cheers.
