First impressions...

...my first impressions of a new component when I first listened to it were almost always wrong, whether I liked it or not.

It was only on long term listening that I was able to identify its strengths and weaknesses accurately.

Like Bruce says above - we are programmed to identify differences, and many times 'different' will seem to be 'better' on first listen.

That's one of the reasons audiophiles become disillusioned with their 'upgrades' the more they listen.
