Sorry. By law, all publicly held US companies are obliged to maximize profits above all else. That is why big tobacco knew smoking was harmful from their own internal research in the '50s, and would lie under oath before US Congressional investigations.
One law says "make money", another law says "don't lie". You are being paid big bucks. If you don't lie, you will be instantly replaced by someone who will lie for money.
All of the appliance makers deliberately design their products to fail shortly after the warranty expires. Can you imagine going to college and earn an engineering degree. You graduate and are hired by a large corporation. Your new job is to figure out the cheapest way to make the appliance fail right after the warranty period, yet still be cost-prohibitive to repair. Nice job, eh?
I recently had a garbage disposal fail. They deliberately make one piece of non-stainless steel a precise thickness so that it rusts through after the warranty period. The disposal starts leaking, and coats more to repair than replace. The solution? Simply buy a commercial grade disposal made for restaurants. It costs 4x the cheapest domestic-grade, but after you factor in the plumber's labor, it is less expensive after 4 years and it will likely last 30 or 40 years minimum. You can pass it on to your kids or whomever buys the house from you.
