Yes, Bob's wife is one of many Taylors - heirs/heiresses to the fortune of the founder of The Boston Globe. Look at the Wikipedia article linked below for some interesting information. As far as I know, they have no links whatsoever with the world of publishing any more.

Furthermore, most ties to that source of money appear to have dried up after 20 years of losses. Several years back Meridian had to find a new source of funding. Look up Meridian Audio on Wikipedia and closely read the 4th and 5th paragraphs under the "History" section. This was clearly written by an ex-employee who very well knew the true inside story of what happened there.

Their new funding comes from the Rupert family of South Africa. Daddy Rupert is dead now, but made his billions by killing people with cigarettes. He invented the "king size" cigarette, the "menthol" cigarette, and many other nice "innovations". One of his sons controls Reinet Investments, which is the majority owner of both Meridian and MQA.

You are not dealing with idealistic entrepreneurs here - this is hard-core big money dudes that you don't want to cross - kind of like the Mafia, I suspect.
