"I don't regard race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference,
religious belief, etc, as being relevant to my hiring practices."

And that is as it should be. Unfortunately, some people get caught up in side-issue motivations and agendas, and we end up with things like people "protesting" because whatever company doesn't have, in the protester's view, the "correct" diversity in its workforce. That's a sad state of affairs, and it serves to perpetuate racial and gender divisiveness, to the financial and political gain of some.
