RE: "I think the market dictates what audience the publications target."

Reading your post made me go hmmm. Perhaps broadening the interest in hi-fi beyond the current demographic might have to be done by the equipment manufacturers and not by the magazines. A challenge remains there.

Relatively recently, TEN media (Stereophile, etc) did hire a young female, Jana Dagdagan, to assist and create editorial content across their properties. She is an audiophile who has written articles, audio show reports and produced videos for TEN. And then there is Stephen Mejias(guessing he's in his thirties), who, I believe, started out at Stereophile as an editorial assistant who went on to write on their website, write a column in Stereophile and eventually review equipment before leaving to work for Audioquest. He has since returned to work for TEN. IIIRC, he was not an experienced audiophile or even an audiophile at all when hired. Can't comment on if they had any impact on expanding Stereophile's appeal beyond their traditional reader demographic.
