Or, rather, their position on MQA a year or so ago.
The market changes. If (IF) MQA takes off and becomes as indispensable as, say, Dolby B for cassettes was then Schitt will be forced to incorporate it or go out of (DAC) business. However the IF is a big one.
I was present at a discussion on the future of recorded music at a private event in London this afternoon held by a (very) high end audio manufacturer. One member of the discussion panel was one of the world's highest regarded classical music recording engineers. If you like classical music you will probably have numerous recordings made by him. He was also one of the earliest adopters of digital hi-rez for mastering way back. I do not feel that I am able to name him as he pointed out to us that he is under an NDA in respect of MQA so could not say a lot. However he could say that he is pretty much wholly opposed to it*.
So as time goes by increasing numbers of industry professionals seem to be making negative noises. But will they be able to counter the marketing? Frankly if the record industry finds it can re-sell its back catalogue in high numbers by using MQA then all of the discussions about whether it is lossless or if there is DRM etc. will be irrelevant.
* Really worrying was his statement that he no longer sees much business in respect of recording for subsequent release on record/CD etc. Most of his work nowadays is to produce video material (highest audio resolution 16/48 as " nobody cares about anything better") in marketing support for artist/orchestral tours etc. You Tube is the dominant medium. This is the guy who engineered the AFAIK two single biggest selling classical records of the past couple of decades. Oh, and " requests for hi-rez material more or less comes only from America".
