Yeah, but your scenario is kinda extreme.

"Thug" attire, jeans and expensive suits (with Rolex on wrist) are hardly the only clothes worn by potential customers.

A more pertinent question would be:

Two men walk into a hifi shop, both wearing casual slacks and a white shirt. One is black and the other is white. Do they receive the same treatment at the store?

I think the answer would vary simply depending on the attitude of the store owner. Like owners of every type of biz, some are more enlightened than others. But that whole question is kind of amusing because IME it'd rarely come up.

As mentioned by others in reply to my OP, in real life we don't see many minority/female sales people at hifi dealers. We don't see many minority/female potential customers at dealers and/or shows. How many minority or female reviewers can you think of? Hear much music at shows likely to appeal to young blacks, Latinos, or for that matter young whites?

There's quite a few demo videos of hifi gear on youtube. Ever check those out? I've seen/heard quite a few of 'em. I think you could find an example or two, but basically you're about as likely to hear a rap/r&b/salsa tune demo'd as see a black/Latino/female reviewer who is filming it and rapping about it.

The hifi biz (including the sales stimulating mags) is apparently content to cater to older white guys and Asian audiophiles. I don't see/hear evidence indicating they're doing much to attract anybody else. But the paltry minority and female interest and representation doesn't seem like a recipe for success in 2017 and beyond to me. Besides that, even as an old white guy I find it boring, stagnant and not representative of my interests.
