It seems rather clear to me, even just in these recent threads, that Atkinson has very little if any skilled listening abilities. After all these years, Atkinson still thinks being a musician or singer has anything to do with critical listening.
And of course, there's his nonsensical claim of the Vandersteen 7A's being "musically perfect...., across board."
Think about it, Charles. If you couldn't really discern what you hear to a good degree, that would imply that much of what you hear sounds much the same. And since you're the editor of a popular rag with all this measurement experience under your belt, you most likely would think that those who think have discerning ears are really just fooling themselves because if they have such wonderful hearing skills, so would you, but you don't so they can't.
And if much of what you heard sounds the same, then real performance would matter very very little to you. Would it not?
So if much of it all sounded pert near the same to you, what's the harm declaring one product musically perfect and another product the equivalent of experiencing the birth of a new world?
Since you would thing it's all pretty much the same, where's the harm and where's the foul if you perform a "favor" once in a while and make such outlandish claims? Especially if half your audience or readership has even less listening skills than you?
And if my outlandish endorsement created a ripple, oh, well. And since you would think performance really doesn't matter to the majority anyway. No harm no foul and you still did somebody a solid.
I'm speculating because I'll never know the whole picture but at best this is what I perceive is going on.
