Explaining away...

Hi Jim,

In a moment, you're likely to have Charles jumping all over you for ... simply trying to explain their side of the story. Why? Do you ever watch those poor press secretaries trying to explain away their boss...? I don't thing the audio press should be explaining for them.

The moment I saw that they weren't willing to perform proper, credible comparisons to the audiophile community, I was alarmed and I wasn't about to try to explain it away by taking their side. Rather, I thought, "You're making this big, bold claims, come on, let's hear it!" But maybe they're scared . . . and why wouldn't they be scared? Because in a proper AB (thank you McGill!) we might find out it's no better -- or it's worse. Or maybe we find out it's the greatest invention. The thing is, LET'S HEAR IT PROPERLY!

I've been called a cynic -- maybe that's why I take this kind of stance. But I think a certain amount of cynicism is helping when critiquing. Besides, if they're selling and I'm buying -- it's up to them to prove themselves, not the other way around.
