RE: Great points. I do believe that designers become emotionally invested....

"I don't think that the discussion around sound quality has any value at all; the factors surrounding the adoption of this technology are much more in the realm of marketing. And Mr. Hansen's Quixotic protestations will still not allow him to stop that train with his bare hands."

viridian, I think you've missed the point here entirely while Hansen has not.

We are participants in what is supposed to be the "high-end" sector of the industry. In other words, the quality and accuracy of a playback system is supposed to be paramount to this tiny cottage industry.

MQA's primary marketing strategy was performance. Remember what MQA stands for, Master Quality Authentication. When the little green light turns on, you know you are hearing exactly what the engineers heard in the recording studios.

And Atkinson came out with his "experiencing a birth of a new world" endorsement of MQA while Harley, who had to be on a heroin high, went to even greater extremes to convince the high-end audio sector that MQA was for real.

But some are now convinced MQA is all just BS. And if that true, we have a very serious problem in "high-end" audio. Some believe the problem has gone on for decades and it took some as rediculous as MQA to expose some highly questionable matters.

What's really at issue here is, performance, the integrity of the leading print magazines and their staff, their listening skills, possible motives, the potential charade of these leaders over the years over a naive and unsuspecting audience, might MQA actually be worse than Redbook, do the industry leaders really care about or for that matter recognize performance, etc.

In other words, MQA's sound quality and what the magazines claimed about MQA performance verses reality has all the value in the world here.

And thus far it ain't looking so good for MQA or the printed magazines, their editors and staff, and in the end the high-end audio participants.
