Sorry, I don't really know the answer to this question. I tried using a Mac in 2009 specifically because I was so sick of Microsoft's policies, quirks, bugs, and business practices. I really, really wanted to like the Mac, but found it far worse to use than even the worst version of Windows. However I would be shocked if there were any difference simply due to the OS. The privacy issue is largely a transaction between the user's web browser software and the web hosting software.
Remember that Apple was almost about to go out of business when Bill Gates bailed them out. I don't know the back story, but I'm sure there were strings attached - such as allowing Microsoft to allow their Office suite to dominate and essentially replace Apple's software for anything other than the most basic user (who didn't interact with anyone else - I recently received a e-mail from a friend that included an Apple spreadsheet attachment and was unable to open it with any translation program I could find, and this was a very recent Mac, not an old thing with the Motorola Power PC Processor).
Seems to me to be just more and more of the behind-the-scenes corruption that is becoming the "new normal".
