That's incredible. The Cupertino tasting room atop Monte Bello Road or the Sonoma tasting room that looks like something hobbits would live in? Probably the same at both. I'm an ATP member and I bet the $30 charge still applies. Three Valleys can be good or mediocre and you are much better off sticking with Geyserville, Lytton Springs, and sometimes the Paso Robles bottling. They can be found for $35 on the net. It used to be that if you scheduled a visit rather than just showing up at the tasting room, they would open stuff up and even offer some charcuterie gratis. But yes, if DitV had been left to the 50 or so ATP members who had been members the longest and if the ideal of something meaningful had been left front and central in the sights, the gross debacle of what it turned into could have been avoided. Oh well. The only thing that never changes is change. Which is a perfect seque to Stereophile. He would never guess it but despite not sharing his tastes or sense of appropriate censorship, I admire the hell out of JA and his tale of being fired for an hour does not bode well for the future of S'Phile. When he, Mikey, and Art Dudley retire, the magazine is bound to go the way of TAS or the Dodo Bird.
