I actually have found at least two webzines to be trustworthy, although one of them curiously seems to restrict the brands they review to only a handful. Perhaps the latter site would rather not say anything than say something negative, but if that is the case, my experience is that they are missing out on some excellent gear.

Sometimes I think it boils down to a case of what Jeff Rowland said to me decades ago, "People know what they like and they like what they know." When presented with something so much better that it doesn't fit into their preconceived box, they tend to reject it. Other do the opposite, and when they hear something they've never heard before, they automatically assume it must be "better". In the latter case, it's often good to re-check after 3 weeks of listening. A good example of this is power conditioners. It's very easy to be wowed when putting one in your system, but the moment of truth comes when removing it 3 weeks later.
