Besides the possibility of pandering to advertisers, there is also the goal of attracting readers with a new (and controversial) technology that requires a lot of explanation, testing and selling. Look at what Harley wrote, in the day, about HDCD (under the editorship of JA). It was also a second coming . . better than a first generation Keith Johnson master tape played on a state of the art machine. Sure!
They all did the same with the various quadraphonic LP disks, and I dare say with RCA's Dynaflex.
That's what they do: stir the pot.
