Re: Stereophile tells readers and manufacturers what they want to hear

"If a Professional Audio Critic goes to such lengths as to claim that a certain audio component is miles ahead of everything else he or she has ever heard, shouldn't they be able to pick it out in a crowd?"

That's always been my belief. One Stereophile staffer, his name escapes me, insists that a megabuck Boulder preamp eclipses anything he's heard, and by a significant margin. Fair enough. One would expect this critic to detect instances (with a high degree of regularity) when this unit is removed from his system and replaced with something inferior. Such an assumption strikes me as reasonable and fair. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for such a demonstration.

Again, notice how neither side is terribly anxious to work together (in a constructive way) in order to take steps that might advance this tedious debate? Instead, they seem content to keep sniping at each other like two groups of warring children on the playground. :)
