Very well put Matt.

Many wine critics not only differentiate between the brands, but can sometimes can do so to the vintage. Bottle unseen.

I do disagree with you on condescension of the DBT crowd. I think it is the other way around. While DBTers may doubt, they do believe in putting their hard earned money where their ears are, not their egos.

I have noticed that the subjective crowd always mentions problems in DBTs. Forget hearing differences and such. Why not just say which amplifier under test is better, regardless of why? Let them put their money where their ears are at. If the differences really are as great as those claimed, then the better devices under test should easily be chosen, faceplate visible or not. Go the wad, let them decide if that 10 K amp really does sound better than a well constructed 2 K amp. Or for that matter, since critics use such visual terms, shouldn't they be able to reverse assign what sound is from what amp? Much like the wine critics regularly do. At Stereohile '06, Stereophile should have a couple of their Golden ears put it on the line. Two amps, no winks or coughs.
