Discuss a review. Provide constructive feedback. Talk to the industry.

It's only logical that given two preamplifiers that measured

"... well enough to be audibly transparent", you would not require listening to choose between them, now would you? I know you're a big fan of logic Pat, so let's not argue the point, OK?

As to how you would choose, in such a case, well you've already been quite explicit in listing things such as "... reliability, build quality, ergonomics, appearance, prestige, WAF". Correct? So Pat, your insisting I know nothing about how you choose seems rather perplexing, wouldn't you say so Pat?

Now Pat, it is true that I simply assumed that where it comes to electronic components that you would select those that measure "... well enough to be audibly transparent". Pat, if I were mistaken on this point that would imply that you actually prefer electronic components that are not audibly transparent, e.g. components that perhaps color the sound in some manner, or that impart a certain sonic signature on the sound, that sort of thing. That's only logical Pat, correct?

But were that the case I imagine you'd be the type that was interested in reviewer subjective evaluations. But yet what you said above leads me to doubt this, specifically:

"Stereophile measures the performance of products given full reviews, but they don't bother to establish that their reviewers can actually hear the difference between most CDPs, amplifiers, and so on."

Now Pat when we consider that it's not just Stereophile that don't bother to test their reviewers for validity to hear differences (e.g. between two CDPs), but that nearly all audio hobbyist publications fail to do so, then we must conclude that the listening observations in those publication are of little interest to you. Hence, what care you for listening evaluations?

Moreover, Pat if you are interested in a certain sonic signature or something like that then you'd be perfectly aware that there exists little current knowledge that reliably correlates measurements with detail sonic attributes. That would then beg the question ... what care you for measurements?

I thing this puts an end to this little discussion as I imagine that the forum readership isn't much interested in your fascination with silly word play twists and turns.

Thus ... ta-ta for now.
