RE: best Beethoven symphonies set

My first Beethoven symphony recording was the Fifth with Toscanini, on 78s.

I have several sets on LP. If you want to have only one set, I would recommend the 1963 von Karajan. It seems to me that it has been the standard since it was issued -- an impressive run!

Because of its dated sonics, the Toscanini set would not do by itself, but I think that anyone seriously interested in Beethoven's symphonies should have it.
