RE: Digital for Classic Audio nerds

There are threads on the MP on both AudioShark and AudioCircle. Posting on them might lead you to someone in your area who has one. I haven't heard one yet but I know someone who has and both he and the forum discussions describe a DAC that punches above its price point and is similar in sound to a Lampizator. Both the Lampizator and MP are noted for their three dimensionality, tonal richness and fluid sound.

Chips are only a part of the sound quality but will make a difference in both hi-res and Redbook. I like the Sabre chips with their higher resolution and detail in combination with a tube DAC's richness. Done well the result can be pretty much the best of both worlds: detailed sound that is also tonally accurate. Which last quality is the most important one for me. That said, if you're looking to save money, go with the standard AK4490 chip (which is a good one and preferred by some) and add copper foil caps which, I think, will make a greater improvement to the sound. The caps can be changed by just attaching the leads to the screw on binding posts in the unit.
