Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

You won't be sorry - this is wonderful music!

The first recording I ever had of the Bach Violin/Keyboard Sonatas was (many years ago on LP) with Grumiaux and Egida Giordani Sartori (on the harpsichord!). The violin playing was exquisite, but of course the clangsichord became wearing after awhile. Grumiaux later re-recorded these works with Christiane Jaccottet (plus a cellist, Philippe Mermoud, doubling the keyboard bass line - at least that addition gave the texture some variety, but I guess the HIPsters don't feel that that's important anymore!). I never heard the Laredo/Gould set, but the Zimmermann/Pace set was certainly a revelation to me, because of the use of the piano. In the meantime, I had played a couple of the sonatas myself (on the piano!) with the violinist/conductor of one of the youth orchestras around in this area.
