Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Hi! It's just me raining on your parade again!

Sorry, jdaniel! You're a great guy and all that, but I somehow can't resist the urge to reply to some of your posts, even after admonitions by Timbo and others!

So. . . Copland's Hoedown from "Rodeo" is a real hoedown (i.e., duple-meter, square-dance type writing). The final Allegro from Bach's G-major Violin/Keyboard Sonata may be many things, but it's not a hoedown - unless you're claiming that Faust's distortions of its 6/8 rhythm turn it into a hoedown? ;-)

And, in any case, whenever one talks about Faust playing Bach, vibrato DOES become an issue. When you suppress a certain natural capability in the playing of a musical instrument, it's like fighting a boxing match with one hand tied behind your back - it's just not gonna work.

Of course, I'm not even going to mention the box of nails jangling around in these performances too. ;-)
